I myself have counted birds on many habitats and for many reasons, and I had to evaluation a large number of papers before adopting a counting method. This ebook is probably the standard reference for bird census techniques. It is the primary that I seek the advice of when planning a discipline research, with good summaries of the professionals and cons of different methods. I really feel that some of the recommendations are more relevant to summer breeding censuses in the northern hemisphere, however, where forest passerines are strongly territorial and density is a significant concept.

The binding is poor, made in England. It is a relatively compact guide and prices a substantial sum of money, but Bird Census Strategies is a reference that any serious area ornithologist must have.

This e-book has a very good step-by-step strategy to determining different ways in which to count birds. Each chapter closes with a great listing of the pros and cons of several types of sampling. Very helpful.
