Cougar: Ecology and Conservation by Maurice Hornocker (Editor), Sharon Negri (Editor), Alan Rabinowitz (Foreword). The cougar is without doubt one of the most beautiful, enigmatic, and majestic animals within the Americas. Eliciting reverence for its grace and impartial nature, it additionally triggers concern when it comes into contact with people, pets, and livestock or competes in a hunters’ game. Mystery, delusion, and misunderstanding encompass this exceptional creature.
The cougar’s vary once extended from northern Canada to the tip of South America, and from the Pacific to the Atlantic, making it essentially the most widespread animal in the western hemisphere. But overheating and lack of habitat vastly diminished cougar numbers by the early twentieth century throughout much of its historical range, and at present the cougar faces quite a few threats as burgeoning human development encroaches on its remaining habitat.
When Maurice Hornocker began the first long-term study of cougars within the Idaho wilderness in 1964, little was identified about this huge cat. Dr Hornocker does a great job pulling together all the knowledge accessible on cougar ecology including historical anecdotal information. Each web page I realized one thing new about puma that I did know before. General nice book!! Only a warning though, personally I feel the image quality of the tables and figure are very poor for the kindle version. If your huge on textual content and not on the pictures/tables then the kindle version is for you. I personally dissect everything and on occasions it was very difficult to read the desk and decipher the figures.
This ebook contains everything it’s essential to find out about cougars; it is a collection of data from the 20 best informed cougar researchers and is in totally independent from specific opinions (hunters, conservationists…) as a result of they did not must agree on just one point of view. It is highly advisable for anyone with a curiosity in Americas 2nd largest cat .
